Description

Hollingsworth (1928-2000) was one of the first Black comics artists, working for Joseph Biro and other publishers starting in the mid-40s, when he was still in High School at Music and Arts in New York. By the 1950s he had taken over the long-running Scorchy Smith strip, which he drew (and wrote, as far as I can tell) in 1953 and 1954. Soon after this, he left comics to focus on painting and teaching. I think he used the zip-a-tone very effectively in this daily.

Center panel is great!  The word balloon shape acts like it's part of her glamorous hair style.
