Description
"Battle Album: Death from the Sky!" Writer and letterer unknown. Cover date September 1970.

The Battle Album "library of information on machines of war" ran from 1968 to 1986 in DC's war titles. As far as I'm aware nearly all were DPS's. Although the author is often unknown, the artists probably wrote them. DC encouraged readers to collect them and thus boost sales.

Earliest appearance of the Battle Album series I'm aware of is in Star Spangled War Stories #139, cover date June/July 1968 as a Joe Kubert DPS of Enemy Ace's Fokker triplane and the Spad fighter flown by his opponent in the issue. (My thanks to a fellow CAF member for this information!)

The next three Battle Albums, all by Kubert (!), ran in each of the DC war titles in consecutive months:

G.I. Combat #131, cover date July/August 1968, "German Tiger Tanks," complementing a Haunted Tank story.

Our Fighting Forces #115, cover date September-October 1968. Rare one-pager of a World War I locomotive, armored car, and soldiers pulling artillery.

Our Army at War #200, cover date December 1968.Odds-and-ends DPS of the defusing of a large German bomb close to St. Paul's Cathedral in London, a B-17 that survived ramming by a German fighter, a German one-man submarine with torpedo, and US amphibious duck vehicles.

The last appearance, or at least among the last, of the feature was in 1986 in Sgt. Rock #409 as "The Night of Fire Ships!" by Rex Lindsey.

Devastating implement of war!  The Battle Album gave us insight on the key weapons that gave each side an advantage.  The scene of scorched earth across two pages should tell us how these bombs were more powerful than anything that has come before.

Wow, awesome illustration of the power of bombs!

Every time you drop the bombYou kill the god your child has bornBoom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Modern globalizationCoupled with condemnationsUnnecessary deathMatador corporations
Puppeting your frustrations with a blinded flag
Manufacturing consent is the name of the gameThe bottom line is money, nobody gives a fuck!

Four thousand hungry childrenLeave us per hour from starvationWhile billions are spent on bombsCreating death showers!
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?

And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?

So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so fun about peace, love and understanding?

Excellent DPS (or were these features classified as pin-ups I wonder, were they all double page sized?) by Glanzman showcasing the destructive power of bombs (something human beings should just uninvent already damnit).

Thanks, Kavi! I was also wondering that and concluded they're not pinups. I haven't seen any Battle Albums showcasing heroes such as Sgt. Rock, the Losers, or the Haunted Tank. The comic where a Battle Album DPS first appears also has a Sgt. Rock pin-up (Our Army at War #200). I should add the GCD list of the Battle Album series isn't comprehensive. I found one not in the GCD list. There might be more.

Dynamic Glanzman art! A DPS that fills every inch with the devastation of death from above. Congrats and thanks so much for sharing it here.
