DescriptionSome of the best moments of Mouse Guard are when the guard mice have to square off against other creatures that dwarf our mini heroes. Many of the predators you think about are in the series (snakes, owls, foxes, weasels, etc.), but when you are this small, even wandering crustations are a major threat!Happy to grab this action page from just the second published issue. Some great stippling and other pen techniques, giving all kinds of rich textures to this page.

I am not familiar with this series as in I haven't read it yet. I have seen plenty of art though here on CAF. I think you chose an awesome page though!!!

No matter how large or ah... small you are in stature. Everyone should be scared of crabs.

This mouse has it's work cut out for it with the armored shell! It's hard enough for us to crack open after boiling, think how hard it would be to attack if the crab outsized you. Petersen must have done a crab feed at some point to prepare for this sequence.

What I never understood about this sequence is why the mice didn't just band together and plop the crab into a pot of boiling water and have a nice dinner together. Either way, Petersen's illustrations are so lovely, aren't they?

Fun page. Brings me back to my highschool biology class where diagrams could only be stippled as no shading was allowed. Congrats again!

Mickey would make Wolverine proud in this one as that crab would make the Hulk blush.

Yeah when you're a mouse, most of your enemies are gonna be pretty formidable, size-wise. Wonderful page, James!

A really fantastic moment. The page design really accentuates the vast difference between the two.

YES!! An unforgettable moment from this fantastic series, where David was showing us just how few limits there would be on the scope of the tale he was telling. And artistically, his work on the crab here is superb (especially the little hairs on the underside of the Dungeness's carapace here in panel 2? Wow - totally next level)! A classic piece that feels like it transcends just "comic art" (or should that read, '"just" comic art'? ;) ) - another absolute barnburner in your epic collection, James! Congrats!
