Description
Tom Grummett and Karl Kesel efforts to finance their creator owned project originally started and published through the Gorilla Comics imprint in 2000. They only managed to get half the series published before the market forced them to stop mid-series. In 2017, with the help of other fellow fans and admirers, they completed the last few issues and published the series as a beautiful hardcover book through Kickstarter.

What you're looking at here is one of several illustrations featuring Section Zero characters that Karl and Tom commissioned and published as pinups inside the hardcover collection. This one features Section Zero team member Carlos Irons. Not long after publication of the hardcover however, Image Comics approached them with the idea of republishing the series in a monthly comic book format, and in doing so, ended up republishing this beautiful García-López piece as the cover to the Image Comics published issue #5.

Personally, I am thrilled to Garcia Lopez cover.

Not enough pirate comics in this era.  JLGL probaby designed it to be a cover with the space above for the logo in case the dead pirate is too much to show and they needed to cover it up.

Jose's art of period settings is so good. Cool how he put a dead body in the rigging and pointed it at Carlos Irons to help guide the eye. The grays and blacks for the dead bodies for the color of the cover are such an excellent choice.
