Description
Steel, The Indestructible Man #4 p5 (1978) Juan Ortiz / Bruce Patterson

Comic page #25; Story page #5

This page features a cool layout with two half-splashes with some inset panels.  When's the last time you saw a hero, especially a bronze-age hero place a sniper target on the villain like Steel does here with the Gadgeteer.

This series only ran for five issues back in the Bronze age and this page comes from the one issue I remember purchasing... I don't recall if I just never saw the other issues on the comic rack or didn't have enough money for them.

Although he was clearly a Captain America rip-off (the bronze age series even set in WWII era) and this series didn't last long he was later rebranded as Commander Steel and would become a legacy character with his grandsons picking up the mantle at various times including the Justice League Detroit era and various other Justice League and Justice Society titles since then.  He even made it to the "little screen" in the Legends of Tomorrow TV series.  Pretty cool for the Cap wannabee that nobody remembers.

This is very early in Patterson's career and he signed the back of the page which also has a"free art" bonus of a doodle weird character head shot.

Page is in overall excellent condition showing normal wear from handling. Use of white-out and blue pencil as part of the creative process. Yellowed tape on top and bottom margins.

Comic cover, story title page, and printed page are for reference.

I remember the series with great fondness. The top tier is classic romance comic composition. Ortiz gets the angle just right.
