Description

Condor is interrogating his servant Erwin when he gets a surprise:

“Based on what I discover inside your mind, I will decide whether to kill you or leave you alive, Erwin…”

“And what do you read in… this?” (Erwin stabs Condor in the chest.)

“Ah! What…?”

“It's a knife! Its blade was dipped in the Dampyr's blood! And now it's inside your heart!”

“Rraaagh! If you think that will kill me, you're wrong!”

(Harlan rises from the coffin, bandaged but not as wounded as Condor supposed.) “We were hoping that it would at least slow you down a little… to give me time to finish you off, Condor!”

“Dampyr!”

(Harlan) “Your surprise seems genuine. You see, it's not that easy to read the thoughts of a Dampyr, and my friend Caleb Lost helped me perfect the technique of keeping them hidden.”

(Erwin) “Yep… one of the tricks is to keep them behind the closed door of some harmless thought… the fog of my migraine to hide the poisoned knife.”

(Harlan) “You are a smart and brave student, Erwin Rogers. Indeed, Edgardo Lopez, it's never too late to take back control of your destiny.”

Even though both are vamps, this is great Universal Monsters imagery with Vampire vs Mummy!

It's strange for something so dark to be genuinely uplifting. I'm rooting for one undead over another. The dynamic arrangement and poses in the final panel is fabulous.

Harlan is way cooler and more badass than any Mummy or even the Batman villain Hush which he sort of resembles in this scene! The last 2 panels on pg 92 are amazing
