Description
As I've talked about before, the collaborative nature of The Moon Is Following Us is something that really made this a standout book for me. The clear but quite complimentary divide in the art duties just worked so incredibly well. This was the first page I purchased that featured both DWJ & Riley Rossmo art on the same board & man oh man is it an impactful one.

If you've read the story, you know what this moment is and just how heart wrenching these events are. For that reason I won't share too many details, but its also pretty clear that Brio (the toad) is in some major distress here. What I’d also great is that this page sees dialogue (“I had a daughter once”) that it is a call back to an earlier issue, and that page (issue 2 pg 23) can also be found in my gallery. Also fun when you can pair relevant pages like this in the collection!

The marriage of two artistic styles fully captures the spirit of this project and showcases two artists with a singular goal in crafting this beautiful book that shines a light on parental love and how it impacts us (in both positive and negative ways).

Go read The Moon Is Following Us. Vol 1 (issues 1-5) is out now and the conclusion, Vol 2 (issues 6-10) is out within the next few weeks.

I like the art here, but I recognized it as DWJ's art. You've credited him and Rossmo as each doing ALL the art, which obviously isn't possible. So what exactly was the division of labor here? Btw, so great to always see how juiced up you get about this series!

Yeah, so its a tricky one when it comes to crediting options here. That top left panel is ALL DWJ with Tash and his daugther. The rest of the page is ALL Riley.

Now, as far as page layout I am assuming it was Riley first on these collaboration pages and then sent to Dan for him to draw his portion of the page (I feel like I head that in an interview somewhere, and that would make sense for Dan to then have all the completed pages including the ones that he drew solo). So its certainly possible Dan had to do some touch up work around Riley's lines here if there happend to be some overlapping, but I honestly can't tell.

Oh, interesting. Okay, now that I take a look at it with this knowledge in hand, I do see a difference in style, but only very subtly. Which goes with your mentioning how seamlessly they both worked together. Thanks, man!

Bascially, there's a real life story and the fantasy story running in parallel.  DWJ does the real life parts while Rossmo handles the fantasy work.  Both have heartfelt moments as there is a mystery of why they are tied.  It's a title that's recommened for 2025.

Oh yeah! Now that you mention it, I'm reminded that Carl mentioned that there are 2 parallel to one another with each artist doing one of the stories, in one of his videos. Thanks for the reminder!

Wooo, Another one!!! Cool to see one of the pages where both creators had art duties on it like you had mentioned previously. Also I gotta steer clear of your descriptions and published versions of the OA pages with the dialogue, because I would like to get around to reading this one after the last trade is out! I am not a father/parent, so curious to see if I connect with it on that kind of level or not (my gut tells me not, but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy it).

Such a great page! I'm waiting on my dual art page from Felix. Such a fun concept. I really hope they consider more of this in the future.
