Description

"Requiem for Skulls" by Doug Moench. Cover date July 1983.

Mayor Hill uses Harvey Bullock to upstage and discredit Commissioner Gordon during the pursuit of the Savage Skull, a vengeful, disgraced ex-cop with a disfigured face.

I love the bird's eye perspective of Batman and Commissioner Gordon with the cityscape visible through the window. Batman's confidence with a hint of smugness and Gordon's alarm and exasperation are well conveyed in the last panels, particularly the Commissioner's. The page offers a different side of Gordon's personality that is not in my other "confab" pages where he is calmly analytic or pensive.

What's there left to say after a 5 hour discussion?  I like that Janson came through with those faces on the bottom panels.  They look more cartoonish and sharp with Batman and Gordon back to back.

Nice Batman page and  I agree that top panel is a scene stealer!

Lovely viewing angle for the opening panel, and the panel 3 Batman face shows fantastic use of shadows. Janson was always great on Colan, such as on Howard the Duck. And this is a wonderful example of their collaboration. Nice, moody page!

Classic exchange between Batman and Gordon reflected by Colan and Janson! I love that top panel too especially with the visible Gotham cityscape in the window, such a great touch. And the following close ups and expressions on both Jim Gordon and Batman are great. Very nice page and addition to your Bat Family collection, congrats!

Listen, we could talk about how great this page is for 5 hours and still not be done with the conversation. Fab!

Beautiful page! Janson's textural approach always made a lot more sense to me over Colan's pencils than some of the slicker inkers DC tried to pair him with during his stint at the "distinguished competition".

Obviously a fantastic first panel but Batman's expression in the second to last panel is perfect. Congratulations on the addition to your varied collection and thanks for sharing this here with us!

Batman's pose betrays his aristocratic insouciance.

What an awesome page Peter! Really love so much about that top panel from the perspective to the city scape out the window. Great acquisition; congrats!
