Untamed #3, Page 26, Dane's Girl Dies

Another page from Untamed #3, published in August 1993 by Marvel's Epic Comics line.

It's actually a tremendous amount of loss and change, all wrapped up into this one page: Dane's girlfriend/love interest... is also a pretty evil person and has committed a lot of crime and murder... yet he does love her. Griffin, his American partner, hates her and has no mercy for her. A lot of dynamics in there.

On this page, Dane's love and Griffin's enemy (the same person) gets killed. It's the last time we see her pretty face in life, and the first time we see it in death. Her gang is dead all around them, too. And this act of Griffin shooting her, a blatant homicide, of course separates the two partners apart. Dane wanted to take her in to face justice, Griffin wanted revenge. Acting on revenge is not good if you want a continuing career in the police department.

So the two lose their partnership and friendship, Dane loses his love, Griffin commits homicide so he must lose his police career (and life, as it turns out). Lots of change and loss on this one page. I didn't actually plan it this way, just kind of bottlenecked to naturally converge this way at the end. Somehow.

Violent page, but also a pretty page, in a way. And it seems like an end-of-the-world kind of page, violent and depressing... but it sets the next couple of pages (the series final pages) up to be the most positive and existentially beautiful pages of the three books.
