ACE is an anthology series that examines normal people going through a classic comic book multidimensional crisis, with each story serving as a metaphor for some aspect of the modern human condition.

One of the unique properties of the comic book medium is that time is represented spatially on the page via panels, gutters and page layouts. As time breaks down, Eric Zawadzki play with space to give the reader a sense of disorientation, echoing the characters' experience in the story.

The second issue centers around the experience of a first-generation immigrant, Jesus, who came to the US as a child, enduring multi-generational cycles of opportunity, bondage, and trauma. Throughout his life, Jesus himself faces a perilous migration journey, the loss of his parents, his phobia of dinosaurs, and the experience of working on the killing floor at a meatpacking plant. The combination of those traumas result in mental breakdown which is reflected on this interior page.

The scene-to-scene transitions seem surreal as velociraptors seemingly chase the laborers on the plant killing floor, alternated with a grisly alligator attack during a migration river crossing, with the panel images bleeding into the next. The disconcerting effect transported me to Jesus's mental state as the reader.
