Description
Over the years, I've had a couple different ideas on what I would do if I ever had the opportunity to get a Manix Commission.

I decided that I would make that opportunity come to pass for #OAX2026.

I think I am the type of collector that would typically avoid recreations, even if unobtainable, because deep down that would be like admitting that it is truly impossible or out of your reach. In this case, I kind of expect I would never encounter the original art by Yoshiyuki Takani, so this choice didn't come off as a defeatist attitude to me.

As far as the content, I love Transformers The Movie and specifically the 'Movie 'Bots' or the 'Season Three' cast of characters and Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime is my favorite. So a recreation of the original Japanese poster for Transformers The Movie, which prominently features Rodimus Prime opening the Matrix of Leadership, surrounded by the Season Three Movie 'Bots seemed like a no-brainer to me.

Jiggy and Manix of Next Comic Art were both great to work with and it was fun to see the occasional process pic from Manix on his various social media accounts. However, I was advised that doing Transformers is not something that Manix shares my passion for. Jiggy mentioned Manix probably wouldn't do a Transformers Commission like this again, but later Manix seemed to clarify 'only one Transformers commission per year'! Regardless of concerns of how Manix's organic style might not exactly mesh with the silicon-based lifeforms that are The Transformers, I love how this turned out.

Also thanks to Tom for capturing the pick-up at OAX!

And to risk sounding like a broken record and maybe a little like Darth Vader, "You don't know the POWAH of the Manix" until you see it in person. As fantastic as it looks in a scan or in photos on social media, nothing prepares you for the way the piece pops when you hold it directly in your hands. Truly, you've got the Touch, you've got the Power.

Each Manix piece should come with instructions to take a photograph instead of scanning to bring out the richness of his paints and inks when presented online!

This is nice and all, but wait until I ask Manix to do a "Challenge of the GoBots" piece!  It will feature Scooter prominently.

Fascinating seeing the pictures from Manix showing several steps into the process. You learn a lot about how the art was created.

A masterpiece that would be at home in the heart of Akihabara.  Fortunately it's much closer to us in the abode of Derek!
