1958 RUSS HEATH STAR SPANGLED WAR STORIES #72 ORIGINAL ART TITLE PAGE 1 SPLASH DC COMICS RARE

Original Art Page for Star Spangled War Stories #72, published by DC Comics in 1958. This is Pg 1 from the issue, and is the title page in the classic Frogman story, with a stunning, spectacular full-page splash image! One of the largest Russ Heath images we have ever seen on a published comic page! The lettering is also hand-drawn directly on the board, and the page is signed by Russ Heath near the middle left edge. This is glorious large-size Silver Age artwork, on art board measuring approximately 14" by 21". There is a 4" diagonal crease line that goes down from the top right side edge and extends into the "H" in "FISH", and there is some scraping in what remains of the indicia sticker at the top edge, as well as some whiteout used in the indicia sticker near the bottom edge. The page displays nicely, and is just a stunning splash. Together with the brilliant Joe Kubert, Heath is one of the greatest war artists in the history of comics, with classic work in the 1950's, 1960's, and into the 1970's. It is rare to find any title pages or a full-page splash from the 1950's from any of the main D.C. War titles (including Star Spangled War Stories, G.I. Combat, Our Army At War, Our Fighting Forces, or All American Men of War). But to find one with an image this good, and this big? And signed by Russ Heath? Forget about it!
