Description

I knew this show as "Robotech: Macross Saga". It's the first serialized TV show I ever watched. It was so popular in the 80s that they played it during prime-time when all the adults got home from work. The cel is of Hikaru Ichijyo (Rick Hunter), the background (with Lisa) is a reproduction still from the episode (ep 28 "My Album").

Beautiful!  It's when Lisa began falling for Rick where they shade her face with more warm blush.  Very romantic as they had that Top Gun feel for love of flying before Top Gun ever came out.

Yes! Macross is what I would have imagined a Top Gun inspired mecha anime to look and feel like, but obviously they created it all on their own.  Romance of flying indeed.

When I acquired this cel, it actually came with a different background print, which had Rick walking down a dark corridor.  As I went to hunt down the scene, I discovered it was supposed to be an outdoor shot with Lisa, which made me appreciate it all the more.

Also any background that better showcases Rick's hairdo is a keeper.
