Description
I enjoyed reading Captain Marvel back in the late 1970's and 1980's and had bought all of the back issues of Jim Starlin's run on the title which blew me away. Once Jim Starlin left the title Al Milgrom became the primary artist on the book for a year or so. These were fun issues, but nowhere near as slick as the Jim Starlin drawn ones were. Then in Captain Marvel # 55, Pat Broderick appeared as the penciller and I really liked his style which captured some elements of Jim Starlin's art, but still had a distinct look.

Thee first issue of Pat's run on Captain Marvel featured the introduction of the character Deathgrip and issue # 56 had his death; which hit me like a ton of bricks. It was the first time I recall a character actually getting killed in a comic and when Deathgrip took his own life in the middle tier of panels on this page I was shocked. It remains a very tough comic to read today. I am honored to be the current caretaker of this very memorable, although disturbing, page. Many thanks, once again, to Paul Handler for trading this one to me.

Always enjoyed Broderick's work.  He was one of the few crossover guys I followed to DC when he did Firestorm and Captain Atom.

Same here!  I really liked Pat's work on Green Lantern as well!  I used to own several covers from his GL run and wish I had kept at least one of them!

Enjoyed this run as well - tough to outdo Starlin but Pat B. did himself proud - and this page is extra memorable!
