Description
I picked this up at auction a couple of years ago now, and it has become one of my favorite pages. Why? Because, IMHO, it is everything a comic page should be. Roy Lichtenstein gets a lot of crap for appropriating comic art, but the one thing that he got absolutely right was that one panel from a comic book, when done right, can show an amazing range of emotion, motion, and intent. For me, Kirby and Royer captured that in the second panel. Something about the expression on their faces ... and you can feel the wind blowing over the dash. Even knowing nothing of the story, never having read Kamandi, there being no big time superheroes, I had to have this page.

Well said sir! that 2nd panel is sublime, panel 3 is also great and you get a Kirby vehicle/hover-jet in the last panel too, lots of appeal on this page even if you don't know the story. great pickup!

In the vein of perfect comicbook storytelling, I love that last panel. Congrats!

It's kind of like the Fantsticar!  Brilliant old school Kirby sci-fi!

The King! It's a high-octane page alright! The Fantasticar- style craft looks amazing, and Kirby spins us around as it is pushed to the limit. A great cast on the page as well. Congrats!

There is no doubt about the Pop Art dimension of Jack Kirby's art! Very powerful!

Kirby's ability to convey kinetic excitement on the page, beyond almost anyone else, is rooted in his "acting" skills--his characters always wear just the right expression for the moment they're in (in the pencils--sometimes the inkers lost it, but not Mike Royer, happily). Classic page!

It's excellent work! But if I may make a suggestion? Unles you can temporarily turn yourself back into your 5 to 7 year old self, DON'T read Kamandi!
