Jamie Jones - Cyclops and Marvel Girl - OAX '26

I want to start by giving a shout-out to Newell "Stingray" and Matt Sardo, who both turned me onto Jamie Jones.

Jamie's work is timeless and has a fancy and playful quality to them that sets him apart from other artists. While the standard Marvel/DC characters are not Jamie's genre, he handles them better than so many others. I had to commission him for OAX '26, and of course, I'm going to get my fav couple. Jamie was incredibly open to working with a large range of costume options, and he picked arguably the best combo.

Funnily enough, I heard about this piece long before I ever saw it. It apparently made the rounds in chats and was shared amongst the interwebs because it is stunning. It's bright and fun. Both characters are leaping off the page. It's framed well with a deep, dark background that allows the characters to pop. Jamie's use of thick and thin ink lines gives so much here. Just look at the dust when compared to the lines on Scott's leg (yes, I'm picking banal items to illustrate the point). The control of line weight translates so much form across the piece.

The composition is also gorgeous, giving us a strong X formation. I love it when artists show Jean leaping or flying with her powers. I told Jamie that when I picked this up, I loved how he conveyed her Telekinesis as sort of exclamatory forms, or wing-ding shapes. It's mental, both figuratively and literally. Jean's mask is so fierce.

I want to see Jamie draw every one of my favorite characters.

Jamie does no wrong! I had this at the front of the portfolio for the entirety of OAX '26 because everyone wanted to look at it. Cheers Jamie!
