Description
Page from Daredevil #110 (pp. 10–11), actually two separate pages combined into one. On one part, Daredevil swings between buildings using his billy club, showing his acrobatic skills, and on the other, he faces off against Mandrill. Gene Colan’s artwork captures dynamic action and movement. A true piece of comic history.

Memorable pair of pages!  I don't know the story of why Colan drew some on a smaller scale like this...was he short on bristol?  It looks great, so he (and his various DD inkers) could have worked at this size all the time if he wanted.  I'm guessing the format was chosen by Marvel editors, but I'm curious to hear more

With Gene Colan, this was usually a conscious working choice, not something imposed by Marvel Comics.
Colan had a painterly style, and working smaller helped him control tones and composition, especially on Daredevil. It also sped up work under tight ’60s/’70s deadlines and translated well to print. It wasn’t standard, but Marvel didn’t strictly enforce page size, and Colan had the freedom to experiment.
Bottom line: It wasn’t about materials, just a mix of style, speed, and personal preference.
