Description

Kirby/Wood - Sky Masters daily - 04/11/1959 The artistic and technical brilliance of the Jack Kirby/Wally Wood collaboration on the Sky Masters strip cannot be overstated. But what's really striking in this particular daily, is the humanity of the characters within. The way that Sky and Riot carefully remove Mayday from the rocket sled, and the moment of frailty conveyed in her body language. The thoughtful, delicate posturing of the characters...pure genius. A fantastic example of what this team of juggernauts were capable of on a newspaper daily. This arrived on my birthday...a wonderful way to celebrate! Many thanks to Steve and Pete for making this a part of my collection.

What an absolutely fantastic example. You couldn't ask for better in a Sky Masters example than a strip from the Mayday story. There is real drama and poignancy in that last panel. Kirby is celebrated for the force and power in  his art and the wild imagination, but I don't hear as much about his narrative subtlety. Congratulations, John! I'm happy for you.

That's a great one!  Wood's inking on Jack's pencils gives Mayday's plight real depth.

Fab addition to your collection! Besides the crazy closeups, detail, and inking this strip is a great example of what I think is the loveliest female that Kirby drew.

Wonderful compositions and viewing angles, with exceptional storytelling. The inking is so delicate.
