The artist brings the tradition of Ingres, Delecroix and Gerome into modern times in which the figures communicate thru their gestures and explain their profession to a male figure outside of the picture plane which is identified only by his lower leg and shoe. The fully dressed female and perhaps madame display 7 fingers to refer to perhaps 7 available women. Provenance: Playboy magazine interior illustration, May 1974. Louis K.
