Description

This painting has the distinction of being my return for the worst trade (financially) I ever made!  Long-time friend Eric Delos Santos (EDLS) had this piece in his awsome collection many years ago and I loved it because the cat pictured in it was as dead ringer for one of our pet cats.  I asked Eric if he'd ever consider parting with the painting given that he had multiple stellar John J. Muth pieces.  He said he might consider trading it for something his collection was lacking.  At the time, I had a terrific Jack Kirby splash page from The Eternals and Eric had zero pieces by Jack Kirby in his collection, so I agreed to an even trade!  At the time, the two pieces were worth approximately the same amount, but times (and art prices) have changed a LOT since then, with the Kirby far outpacing any rise in price of the Muth painting.  Funny thing is that I STILL like the Muth painting more than the Kirby splash, so all is good (although Eric will be laughing all the way to the bank if he ever decides to sell the Kirby splash)!

Ah, there it is.  I know I have six other splashes, but I really do still miss this one.  But I'm glad to see that it still means so much to you after all these years.  I also love the fact that, regardless of values, we've both treasured our respective pieces enough to have hung on to them for over 30 years.  Just like our friendship.  Thank you for my first Kirby, and thank you for loving this piece so much as to not make me feel bad about losing it.

Hey, that cat looks a bit like mine also - congrats for getting to this one first!
