Earlier this year, Garin advertised being open for commissions on Bluesky. I was, and still am, in the process of a commissioning a series of pages with his creative partner Pbbeta depicting some of the principal players of the manga based on Miyazaki's Wind Rider outfit page, and thought it would be fun for Garin to create a cover for this, for now, imaginary little zine.
Thusly, I reached out to Garin to gauge his interest, with the only stipulation being the use of traditional tools, as there's a handful of other pieces by Garin posted here on CAF I believe are all digital. Thankfully, he liked the idea and proposed doing a piece based on "'the World...' with a landscape or something similar that gives a sense of the scale of world of Nausicaä."
Mere days later, he delivered a whopping eight possible prelims (see additional images) to choose from based on this premise. I enlisted the help of some trusted people over on Discord and with much difficulty whittled it down to 1, 6 or 8, giving Garin the final choice over the matter
From there, Garin opted for and went ahead on 8 and shared a full pencil sketch for it the very next day, with the end result following soon after.
Really pleased with it and already playing with some ideas for Garin to do some more interstitial pieces as this imaginary little zine with Pbbeta progresses.
