Description

This one has everything that would bait Chris Snorek to pick this in his weekly top 10!  A MasSnorbaition Sensation!

  1. Kevin Maguire dialed in facial expressions of bewilderment on the monsters
  2. Illustrative textures that only Chris Snorek appreciates
  3. Negative space used boldly in the center of the composition
  4. It can be argued that this exemplifies Aesthetics over IP and Artist popularity
  5. The Bugs Bunny body language used for comedic effect when he's about to get forked
  6. Ambush Bug trying to figure out how to post photos in the CAF app without premium
  7. I'm screwed as this plan goes nowhere since it's now a Stingray week to do picks.

It's a piece from Nick Barrucci who gave me a "spectacular deal" because he was late for his own Original Art Experience show.  If you don't know what I mean, tune in this week (and every week) on Friday 7pm EST/4pm PST on the EXP Youtube channel and see Nick's employees cover for him while he's somewhere in the back on the phone with his lawyers so they can charge him overtime to work Friday nights.

By the way, you've all been saying it wrong all this time.  They are called Zingsters.

Bill and Chris will be battling it out to see who gets to use this in their top ten.

My casual observations on the Weekly Top 10.  The picks mostly come from Bill and Chris's watched galleries.  Can't really hold that against them, there is something like 1500 new pieces a week...that's got to be exhausting if they really went through them all.  Less than 100 people watch the show live and the picks can sometimes be after two hours when many watchers have tapped out.  It's just two guy's taste that percentage wise (if there's 15,000 active CAF members) nobody pays attention to.  The show and the picks are really just fun for very small core group I call CAF Social Club.  I like it when my piece is picked, but in the grand scheme, it means nothing.

I think I like the negative space version of Ambush Bug more than the final colour version. It adds to his apparent nonchalance. Great composition.

Sweet Maguire cover, top loader keeping that bad boy safe from the assortment of grease and sauce that surely grace that table. Suddenly I have a craving for Halal chicken. Your CAF monetization may be in jeopardy If you used the "real" title of the comic eh!? There must be some sort of Kevin Bacon math that makes Ambush Bug a Stingray adjacent character so you never know what inconsequential decisions will be made for art picks next week!

Perhaps it's time to retire the weekly top picks and replace it with best Ambush Bug art of the week.  This cover would surely have a strong chance of being picked for that!

Oops, I forgot to talk about this piece in my first comment.  Great dynamic Linework and Texture! The technical skill in the inking is the highlight of this piece. I love the strong character Expressions! Each monster has a unique personality conveyed through facial structure and body language. Awesome effective use of negative space! By leaving the central figure almost entirely white with minimal internal lines, Maguire uses negative space to draw the eye directly to the middle of the composition. Superb compositional framing! The monsters are arranged in a way that physically hems in the central figure. This "crowding" reinforces the story being told—a lone, calm individual surrounded by overwhelming, chaotic forces.

I usually don't like it when anyone other than Keith Giffen draw Mr. Schwab, here.

There are, of course, exceptions. And this is right at the top of the list.

Funtastic. Using Ambush as the source of light was such a great idea.

This is a GREAT Cover!  Everything is beautiful and subtle in many ways.  Ambush Bug telling the demons to wait while he finishes checking his phone and email messages.  The line work.  Beautiful.  Congrats, and I'm glad it's in a GREAT collectors hands!

And this SHOULD make the weekly top 10!

For a moment there, I actually thought DC had used the YouTube inspired title on an actual comic. Phew! Cool Maguire art, sure to be picked on Thursday!

Simply beautful and detailed inks, that don't detract from the central figure, with it's clean empty space drawing your eye as they all look at his almost glowing form. A stunner!

Another one that I absolutely love, Marcus... and I was going to comment on basically everything you said Chris was going to say...! lol  Wonderful composition and negative space (contrasting so well with the highly-textured demons), great humor (with Ambush Bug's uncharacteristicly unflappable cool as the pivot point).  Love it!  Congrats, Marcus!

I love the heavy detail around making the negative space within the center character really pop. Great details and expressions we expect out of Maguire!
