Darth Vader by Rafael Maldonado-Bad Hand

This piece is part of a larger collection of comic art sketch cards that represent friends I have met along the way in the comic art hobby. Some were chosen because the collector seriously focuses on that character, and others simply because I noticed a piece in their gallery and wanted to see a sketch card interpretation of that character. I decided not to name names, leaving the collection open to interpretation, since it reflects the community as a whole and the shared connections that make this hobby meaningful. Each card is a tribute to the friendships formed, the generosity of fellow collectors, and the joy of discovering characters through someone else’s passion.

Rafael captured the essence of Darth Vader with this piece, making you feel as if you are about to fall directly into his sights. The lighting is incredible, allowing the negative space to shape the texture of the helmet and give the whole image a powerful sense of presence.

This piece is inspired by a collector who taught me the finer points of parkour and catfishing. My poor wife lol. Little did she know her snowboarder would one day become a comic art collector. We have had great conversations about Star Wars, the cosmic, and plenty of things in between. He is a genuinely fun collector to spend time with, and I am grateful he is part of my Star Wars Conclave of friends.
