Congrats on a super nice Ware illustration
I will admit that personally I do not know much about Ware or his works as I don't think I've read any of it. But everytime I see an original piece added here on CAF I always have to appreciate it and zoom in on the scan and see just how he did it - the mix of top notch "lettering" and playing with fonts/text alongside his minimal linework and unique compositions it's unlike what anyone else does. I can tell from your write up this is a big deal pickup for you, and rightfully so. Congrats Mark!
I thought he was looking at his own work too but Ware says in his Monograph book that it's actually an interpretation of scenes and characters from Clowes's David Boring! He and Clowes are friends and the collected David Boring was also coming out from Pantheon that Fall.
Very nice. Wow, Ware & Clowes are buddies. I like that idea.
Just beautiful! Great draftsmanship with incredible design. Congrats on an amazing Ware example, Mark!!
Flawless! Meticulous! A triumph for graphic design!
The design in this is outstanding, as per Ware's usual. He changed and broadened my tastes in comic art when Acme Novelty Library first hit the stands.
Exceptional Ware piece, congrats
Man, that is just beautiful cartooning right there. Outstanding graphic design as well!
Beautiful piece by a master. One of the all-timers.
That's great! Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant write-up, Mark, and you nail all the key elements Chris is displaying here. Even though you say it isn't -technically- a published Acme piece, it's right up there (and counts) in my book. It stands as a brilliant example and summation of the design-centered excellence Ware unleashed with his Comics Library (that, in 2000, Pantheon would soon be introducing to parts of the reading public that would never have experienced it at that point). TOTALLY counts. :) Epic piece, Mark - huge congrats on this heavenly beauty!
Thanks, Jason. Much appreciated.
I do not know much about Ware but after seeing this Im definitely going to look into his works. I love the graphic quality of this piece it's fantastic! Major congrats!
