It's all in Hourman's eyes, looking up at Firebrand as if there was nothing else in the universe.  Made even more prominent by the black mask.

Nice page, but I do not envy their ride if they are going very far. My short hop in a B-24 was only outdone by the B-25 in terms of bumps, bruises, and minor scrapes when trying to move around in flight.

Romance (or its regretful absence) is one good way to humanize these characters who never had much personal depth in the Golden and Silver Ages.

Looking at the detail in Firebrand's eyes beneath her mask makes me wonder what Vinnie erased!

Nice All-Star Squadron page, the Hourman close up is excellent and I really like the bottom panel as well. 

Tom, thanks for your perceptive comment and question. I appreciate it. I share your doubts. The inking is indeed uneven. Mark Evanier called Colletta "Vinnie the Guy Who Had Plenty Of Assistants" for good reason. Panel 2 looks like a sloppy Colletta rush job. Panel 3 and 4 inks are nice, although, as Matt Kennedy perceptively commented, Colletta probably erased Harris pencils of her face. It lacks definition and a light source to match Robotman's. Overall inking on this issue is poor and he unfortunately "inked" 13 issues. All that said, one might read into my comments that I'm unhappy with it. I'm not. I'm happy and pleased it's in the collection for Hourman's lovelorn face and other JSA/Squadron and World War II strengths that make for a nice overlap of the two interests.

Wow, not one, not even two, but THREE LARGE CLOSEUPS! They look fantastic, and you even get a full figure Dr. Fate! Great addition, Peter!
