Concept artwork by Mike Bell for the British Quad for Martin Brest's Midnight Run. This lot comes from the personal collection of Brian Bysouth. Starring Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin, the film follows a bounty hunter tasked with transporting an embezzling accountant across the United States while being pursued by the FBI, mobsters, and rival hunters; it was met with strong critical acclaim for its sharp script and chemistry between its leads, and is now regarded as a classic of the action-comedy genre. This piece by artist Mike Bell formed part of the British Quad's design process, which culminated in Bysouth's final poster artwork incorporating the collage of characters and stunts depicted in Bell's concept. Bysouth's finished piece adopted a blue tone rather than the red seen here, making this a unique opportunity to acquire an incredibly scarce variant of Midnight Run's poster artwork. The artwork is painted in gouache on an illustration board, with an accompanying loose paper border that can be placed to frame the composition.
