Madballs - She Creature

I forgot I had this sketch until this morning when I went up to the attic (where I have a wall of monster drawings) and this one fell out of its frame. I don't know how that happened, but it made me remember this piece. I got it from a long gone gallery in Northampton Mass called Foe. They specialized in lowbrow and kaiju art. We would go there as often as we could. We have a good deal of art from them. They explained this one to me when we got it. James Groman was one of the illustrators who helped create the look of Madballs from back in the 80s. At this point he was doing sketches of vintage monster movie creatures in the style of madballs. This was the 50s flick She-Creature. The owner of the gallery pointed out that Groman put a bow on the creature to prove that it is a girl. I think it so charming. I will need to find a better frame for it.
