Description

A few weeks back I showed the cover art to Jonah Hex #92 the final issue of the Jonah Hex western series that ran from 1977 to 1985. It was replaced that same year (1985) by a Hex series that had Jonah Hex in the future, it ran from 1985 to 1987. Last year I showed the Hex final pages from that series. This concluded the fifteen year saga of Jonah Hex who debuted in All-Star Western #10 1972  and ended with Hex #18 1987. That was the end of Jonah Hex...or was it!?

"They say that a man with revenge in his heart should dig two graves. One for his enemy and one for himself. I guess mine's just gonna have to wait." - Jonah Hex

In 1993, it was announced that they were bringing back Jonah Hex in a big way. After six years of no Jonah Hex he was back.

Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo was five issue limited series, released under the Veritgo imprint, written by Joe R. Lansdale with art by Tim Truman and Sam Glanzman. Joe R. Lansdale was an established writer of western and horror books. Who better than him to write Jonah Hex. The book was a wonderful mix of weird/horror in a western setting. A throw back to the beginings of Jonah Hex in Weird Western Tales, although those stories were tame in comparison to Two-Gun Mojo.

Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo was a returm to glory for Jonah Hex. The mini was well received and spawned two more minis. Riders of the Worm and Such (1995) and Shadows West (1999) by the same creative teams.

The art by Truman & Glanzman was perfect. It’s rough, colorful, expressive, and unnerving in its own weird way. Truman also redesigned Jonah Hex’s look making him dirtier & rough. The cover image was used for promotional posters and such. It was the first image of the new Jonah Hex released and it grabbed your attention! Love this cover!

I remember this series well when it was released.  I picked it up and read it because it was published under the Vertigo imprint.  It had a great horror vibe to it.

Woooow! Did this one come up at auction recently, or is this one you've been hiding for a while? The 1st issue cover, no less, and with that killer skull next to Jonah, all the cooler! Congrats, Ceasar, so awesome!

I bought this in 2017. Wow! 9 years. I wouldn't have guessed that long. Time flies.

I wasn't posting much during that time and I got lazy about taking pictures of my art.

Since it not a new photo, it means some time back I was going to post it but never did.
