Scattershot Projectile, Page 7

You aren't going to look at Shamu the same after you read this. I know a few CAF members who are obsessed with the high flying Sea World star and they are going to be devastated.

I recently posted an Alex Saviuk dolphin attack page from an issue of The X-Files that I had picked up at last year's CAF Live event. Well, if you can actually believe it, this year offered up yet another Marine life amusement park themed interior, but quite the opposite in tone and style from the previous dolphin based horror.

This page is from the “So Far From Home” story, which details the journey of an Orca whale from the freedom of the open ocean to the confines of a bleacher filled stadium inside of an amusement park. We see the first step in capturing the pod in these four panels and Geoff's choice of layout works very well. He is able to provide some great detail and perspective in those top panels and does so with an even better use of negative space. It all culminates in the bottom panel as we see the impact of the explosive on the Orcas. I know everyone is thinking the same thing right now....if only those were stingrays.

This story along with the rest of Scattershot Projectile is a great reminder that comics can be anything that you can think of. Geoff's art style fits the tone of this story and not only is he versatile as you see throughout the book, but he is also an effective visual storyteller. I feel like that can be hard to do in comics sometimes, and he nails it. The end result is an indie book that is worth picking up.
