Description

The Death of Superman #75 Doomsday pages were rocking the news lately - mainly because of the astronomical sums which they sold for. Way, way out of the league of the vast majority of collectors such as myself. Still, all isn't lost for those of us who still fondly remember that particular period and who don't mind obtaining artwork containing Doomsday even if they are by different artists. It was perhaps serendipitous, but before I knew about the big auction I have just mentioned, I had picked up two pages containing Doomsday - one from one of the books in the series leading up to the Death of Superman and also this recap page published some years later. I also obtained a Doomsday card artwork recently for what I consider to be a reasonable price (this time from the Superman #75 artists, Jurgens and Ordway). I begin by posting the recap page. Mike McKone is an accomplished artist in his own right and the inks by Marlo Alquiza are really quite good as well. And it is a huge splash page which captures the savagery of the encounter itself.

LOL Brian! In all seriousness, the actual battle was so savage that it shocked many (which I guess was the general idea).

For any Superman fan, to have a Doomsday battle page with Superman is a MUST HAVE. This is particularly good. I guess you enjoy it a lot. Specially knowing you hadn't to pay six figueres for it. As good as it gets.

Many thanks, Toni. Although it is only a recap page, it was published in the official title, albeit some years later. And, yes, the cost was this was too reasonable because the seller, whom I know very well, was also exceedingly generous in giving me a discount from an already very reasonable price.

Plenty of Superman vs Doomsday fish in the sea for all - not any can entertain the Superman 75 sharks in the water to your main point! Excellent McKone splash showcasing the intensity of one of the most iconic hero vs villain battles and encounters to ever go down in comics! Looking forward to seeing that Jurgens Doomsday card art you mentioned as well.

Many thanks, Kavi. And I will be sure to post the Jurgens Doomsday card art soon.

Gorgeous depiction of Superman vs Doomsday! It might not be as historic as the Jurgens pages, but artistically, I like this one a million times more! Huge congrats on this pickup!

Many thanks, Alberto. McKone is a gifted artist and, as mentioned, this does appear in the Superman title, albeit by way of a recap.

in black and white, I would not have guessed Doomsday, but the colors sure convinced me. congrats on an epic looking pick up!

Many thanks, Duke. I think that, in black and white, there is so much detail that what's going on is not immediately discernible although Doomsday's face is pretty clear.

Don't you just love serendipity? I would have kept this one were it not for the fact that I already owned another piece featuring a Death of Superman flashback. But it always makes parting with pieces so much easier when they go to people I know. Congrats, CAB, happy to see it in your collection!

Many thanks once again, Rubén, for not only parting with it but also for parting with it for a more than reasonable price. Rest assured that it has gone to a good home.
