Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #3 Page 18 - Batman & Alfred In the Batcave

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum was a highlight of my 2025 comics reading. It made my best of list, and more importantly was my introduction to the beautiful art of Martin Morazzo. I was familiar with the Ice Cream Man series, I have seen his art from it, but I hadn't read any of it so I didn't quite appreciate the visual flair his art brings to the written words from W. Maxwell Prince. This creative pairing just fits perfectly. There is a level of unnerving humor and dark tones that make that series its own brand of horror. Here though, on a Superman book, those tones and stylings are still present, but doesn't lean into horror, it leans into DC Silver Age quirkyness.

The book may only have Superman's name in the title, but it really is a wonderful Batman/Superman team up series. Superman discovers new forms of Kryptonite and he decides that he should get ahead of Lex (or anyone else meaning him harm) and test these new forms on himself to see what effects they have on him. The only way he feels safe in doing this is to enlist Batman's help. He tasks Batman with running the tests and being there to help deal with any problems that may arise...and that they certainly do!

It's a really fun, quirky read that has only gotten better with each reread. 

I had missed the drop for issue 1 and issue 2 sold complete so my first real crack at any of the art came here with issue 3 and given my love of classic Batman settings and scenes, this page became an immediate target! Morazzo's fine lines and use of small dots to add the subtle expressive details on his characters is something that I have quickly fallen in love with!  

If you take a look at the publisehd page I have in additional images, you can see some of the signature somewhat dark humor in the dialoge of Prince in the form of the conversation being had between Bruce and Alfred.

I'm now in the process of reading the Ice Cream Man series and will read anyting this team creates (currently the newly released The Deadman series from DC).
