Twin Peaks

Fresh out the coffee pot from a sweltering HeroesCon weekend in Charlotte, is this gorgeously composed attempt at freeing Agent Tyler from the Black Lodge. Well Karl, safe to say, I think it worked! Not only did Karl tie all of my favorite design elements from Twin Peaks into a single 9”x12” mixed media banger, but he also included an authentic Heroes coffee stain! Damn fine, indeed.

The story behind how this commission came about is just as great as its end result. I just happened to be strolling the aisles at Heroes and I see this girl walk by with a shirt design that made me do a double take. At first glance it appeared to be the iconic Henry Rollins' fronted Black Flag logo, but I know those signature zigzags with my eyes closed. This shirt said Black Lodge instead! I got her attention and in my standard, overly excited fashion exclaimed, “That shirt is awesome!”. I didn't think too much of it and continued on my table exploration.

A couple of hours later I approach Karl Slominski's table and there is the girl with the Black Lodge shirt again. Turns out her name is Jenna, and after a quick greeting I immediately asked Karl with a huge smile, “Where is the Twin Peaks art?”. At that moment we realized we all loved the series and that needed to be celebrated in 9x12 color format! As a collector, this was one of those times that I already knew the end result was going to be great.

Karl packed so much into the composition here, not only with story related content, but also with his approach and perspective in regards to the shows signature themes. His use of color ties directly into that and makes for a wonderful piece. It's proper fan service from a talented artist who is also a fan, and you can see the heart that went into it!

Sincere thanks goes out Karl Slominski and also to Jenna for wearing that shirt! This is one of the pieces that made my Heroes weekend and I am thrilled to have met the both of them.
