Even though he knows he could cheat and get as many fish as he wants through heat vision or super speed - he still wants to do it the old fashioned way. Is it a metaphor for the OA hobby? Perhaps. It may also be symbolic of those artists who choose to still do traditional art in the era of digital art and monoprints! And we collectors thank them.

In my headcanon, Lex Luthor managed to strip Superman of his powers and left the former Man of Steel on an island with nothing but a fishing pole to keep him alive.
