To set the scene, the Phoenix Force has resurrected Jean Grey too soon and needs Cyclops' optic blast to fuel her fiery ascent; without it, she will fail. In response, Cyclops recruits Kitty Pryde to phase her hand into his chest, threatening to stop his heart, before the scene shifts to flashbacks of the couple in happier times.

Ink and white paint over graphite on Marvel Bristol board with marginal notes. "color note: e see sight flames through the face." 

I love the split portrait of Jean in the first and third panels. Kitty looks absolutely fierce in the second panel. The fourth panel is really the standout as you get a collage of memories. The art itself is so perfected you triple-take to make sure it's not a digital print.
