Smaug and Bilbo by David Petersen

Can't find Bilbo? Of course not, he's wearing the Sauron's ring and is invisible. :)

David Petersen is best known for his Mouse Guard series which is excellent. He's also a very talented fantasy artist and Tolkien's Smaug is right in his wheelhouse as you can see.

For those coming in late, at this point in The Hobbit, Bilbo is performing the role of burgler for the expedition. He has slipped down the hidden passage into the room containing both the treasure of the Lonely Mountain and Smaug. Because he is wearing the One Ring, he is invisible though Smaug could smell him. He managed to steal a gold cup and return it to the dwarves as proof that he found the treasure. Smaug was not the least bit happy about that success and started terrorizing the neighborhood (again).

P.P.S., I didn't ask for Bilbo - the title is a joke. :)
