Darwyn Cooke - DC: The New Frontier Issue #4 Page 43 (2004)

Rather than board the rocket to Mars and escaping Earth, J’onn J’onz risks himself to save King Faraday, one of the main government agents tasked with hunting aliens, and in particular had just confronted the Martian in the prior page. It’s a microcosm of the bigger theme of New Frontier: the moral evolution of superpowered beings and regular people in an America that was transitioning from the height of the Cold War.

Cooke’s masterful cartooning conveys J’onz’s dilemma in the middle panels with two simple facial expressions before he chooses to sacrifice his security to save Faraday becoming a protector of humanity in the process.

It's raw and filled with emotion!  Cooke could have refined it, but then it would lose all the emotion.
