11x22" frame contains artboard that has been matted to 5.5x16.75" under glass and features pen and ink original art by Pogo creator Walt Kelly (1913-1973). Dated Nov. 13, 1957, strip features four panels and shows Howland Owl (who wear professor's mortarboard) in rowboat staffed by Churchy Le Femme and Albert Alligator (both of whom wear naval bicorne hats). Story deals w/"Around-The-World" exploration w/Churchy bringing up Friday the 13th, eventually realizing Nov. 13th was a Wednesday instead. Of note, rowboat bears hand-lettered "The Bonhomme David" and "Ol' Dave Parsons" names, a nod to the original recipient of this original art (a frequent Kelly personalization). Churchy appears in every panel while Howland appears in three of four panels. Albert appears in first and last panel. Dated in first panel w/hand-lettered "The Hall Syndicate, Inc." name at bottom. Kelly has signed in last panel. Top margin has some lt. editorial notations. Bottom margin has been inscribed "Put Out Your Butt, Parsons, You Got To Stop, Arson, Around - Walt" w/musical notes added throughout cheeky inscription. Artboard has faint vertical crease at center as mailed and shows even lt. aging w/scattered lt. dust soiling, but art remains clean and Exc. Ready for display as matted and framed. Dave T.
