Steve Rude takes on a classic John Romita Spider-Man cover here, and gives it just enough of his own “spin” — sue me — to make it fun. I’m glad I snagged it.

I love Rude’s Torch pose, and the extra dock details — crates, pylons, broken boards — make the whole thing feel like a real waterfront brawl.

But nostalgia wins this round. Romita’s Spidey still has the better perspective in the original (Published cover in comments) and it’s his comic. The whole cover just feels a little more balanced.

And Spider-Man by Romita?

That’s pretty much the home field advantage.

Love this. Imagine Rude on Spiderman during the 80s. His take on the character is spectacular.

The only thing Rude doesn't do is that Romita razor effect over the black ink as he's too much of a perfectionist to leave anything to chance.

Rude somehow gives a Ditko feel to Romita Sr.'s Spidey. A very impressive piece!
