Description

I met Joseph Karg last year at HeroesCon and was immediately taken by his work. Some very nice pen and ink art that was done for Marvel Snap as well as some great painted stuff. He asked if I was an artist and when I said I was just a collector, he started asking what I was into, which lead to me giving a big spiel about Stingray, including showing off some commissions I had on me. When I told Joe I wanted a piece from him, he began to talk bout how it was going to be a fun challenge after seeing some of my other pieces.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this piece, but this wasn't it. I was shocked when I got to see this in person for the first time. The neon colors mixed with the art noveau like features on the whale give this a very dreamlike quality that is unlike anything else in my collection. I love the small hilghts in the clouds and the deep red in the waters surface. The way Stingray's steps bleed into the water is pretty is such a cool effect that my eye keeps getting drawn back to. A casual viewer may not realize what's going on at the bottom of the page, but upon hearing the subject, it all becomes clear.

“He piled upon the whale's white hump the sum of all the general rage and hate felt by his whole race from Adam down; and then, as if his chest had been a mortar, he burst his hot heart's shell upon it.”

I love this piece. Perhaps one of my most favorite you've gotten. Great pick up Newell!

I wonder if this guy is a fan of Moonshadow? Beautiful watercolor! If Sandman was still at thing, he would do a great job on it. Wow!

Oooh! That is an excellent comparison that I had not thought of! Good call on the Sandman, too.

Holy shit, this is more "fine art" than illustration. Most impressive.

I think this needs to be recreated in stained glass for the Church of Stingray of latter day Marvel.

I'm so lucky to have seen this in person!  The images don't do it justice.  One of my favorite pieces in your collection.

Beautifully done! Compositionally speaking it evokes vintage sci-fi/fantasy painted art or book cover vibes to me but with a totally different setting, it's unexpected yet so effective. Very unique style and one of the coolest Stingray Meets pieces you've gotten so far! Congrats.

Continuing your roll finding and commissioning new artists! Abstract vibe! Might be watercolor and markers? A unique take on the Sting!

I believe so, and I think there was some color pencil as well.
