Heroes Con Auction is always fun.
i even did it sober this year. i saw this Sandman piece by Michael Zulli and loved it. i didn't even know it was Zulli when i first saw it. Turns out his widow donated it for the Michael J Fox portion of the auction. when it came up for bidding only one person bid on it. it was more than i wanted to spend but such a great deal. i decided to up the bid b/c i knew for a fact i'd be outbid.

well farts - i wasn't expecting to win.......but I WON!!!
i paid right away and took it to my room. i was in a state of shock/joy/regret and couldn't tell them apart.
figuring out how to get it home was the next challenge. it was too big for my suitcase. i bought some bubble wrap and tape and wrapped it up. my local comic shop offered to drive it home for me. while i was helping them tear down after the con i found a tv box that was the perfect size so even extra protection.
Michael Zulli was one of those artists i always had hoped to meet. Very talented guy. I was sad when he passed and i remember talking with some friends about it. the regret has worn off from winning this auction but the joy and shock are going to be with me for a long time
