Description

The lowest depths of a soul, deep within the earth. You've never seen darkness like this.

Figuratively and literally - Nate says that he "inked the black areas twice to get the richest darkness possible on the original" and the results are striking. In person the inks absorb all the light, and the piece looks like a movie poster. This piece is simply astounding, and on the short list to be framed ASAP.

There are some fantastic, subtle details that really make this a thought-provoking and layered image.

Thanks as always to Sean at Athenaeum Comic Art for a buttery smooth transaction.

Fantastic, moody piece. Purple is really one of Powell's signature colors!

The reflection and ripple on the water is so much more effective with the utter darkness of the surroundings putting focus on the little light sources to be found! Excellent work.

Rich black ink with moments of light finding it's way to just the right spots delivering a haunting reflection and nice storytelling in a single image.

Very cool image!  Love the ripples and reflections on the water which reveal that the one ring is indeed in hand. Gollum is appropriately rendered in a very creepy manner where you really can only see his sinister smile and greedy eyes.

There are demons that I cannot wash away
Sometimes they make me want to cry
Hopeless feelings harbored deep inside my art
And I find it hard to hold my head up high
In the riddle of the darkness in my life
I find a strength to commission
I am holding to a promise Watkins made
And I know it won't be long 'til Powell be home.

In a while Powell be home
And we won't have pool cry anymore
All our shadows left behind
And that's the day that I am waiting for
And that's the Nate that I am longing for

If you feel there is no meaning in your life
And it seems you've lost your cave
Listen closely to the voice that's deep ink lines
And remember that’s to savor what’s through Nate

There's so much solid black, yet still so much depth visible. Wonderfully executed!

Moody and unique piece!  Love the water effects, shadowy figure, and the peek at a brooding sky

I see a white board
And I want it painted black
No colors anymore
I want them to turn black

I wait for the paint to dry
then I paint reflections in white
and shimmering light in the sky
and more darkness of the night

Fantastic piece.  The depth created and the color scheme are so well employed in the visual composition.  Nate is a fantastic artist and it is great he is getting more attention through Sean at Athenaeum.
