Animation Drawing of Pinocchio on Stromboli's Stage, 1940

This is the only drawing I have seen from this particular scene of the film. It shows Pinocchio on stage, in the spotlight, right after the curtain has risen on Stromboli's puppet stage. A few seconds later, Pinocchio starts to sing "I've got no strings....".

Things to Consider When Buying Animation Drawings, Part 2:

Most scenes of drawings contain one of more colored drawings, intended to be guides to the women who inked and painted cels as to the colors to be used. Many dealers ask higher prices for these colored drawings even though they are not particularly strong images and the coloring is often rather crudely done. I have rarely bought any of these drawings, the exceptions being examples from scenes from my favorite Disney short, The Robber Kitten.

Other drawings exist on which code numbers and time indications are written. This information was written by supervisors in the ink and paint department who have made cels based on sample drawings and timed how long it took them to complete a cel. By indicating the time it took to paint each color and adding up the total time it took to make a finished cel, these drawings acted as guides to others who made cels regarding how long it should take for anyone to complete other cels for the scene. Presumably inkers and painters would have been reprimanded, and in serious cases even fired, if they took too much more than the indicated times in completing their work. I find these time indications interesting, so, even if they can be somewhat distracting to the appreciation of the actual drawing, I do not pass on buying a good drawing just because it has such information on the side of the paper.
