Description
Before a Jewish wedding ceremony, the bride and groom sign the ketubah, an ancient contract of marriage traditionally illustrated by the finest comic book artists of the ancient world. This was done for us by James Jean-- a fave of both myself and my new bride. James chose the story of Reuben and Penina, a Jewish "fable" of sorts. Penina, having been exiled by Queen Sheba to live alone in a tree on an island for five years to disprove King Soloman's assertation that God arranges marriages in heaven, spots Rueban adrift in the churning water below. A violent storm had tossed Rueben overboard from his father's ship, and he clung to a piece of driftwood as the waves assailed and cradled him towards the island. James did amazing work and copied/incorporated the hebrew text perfectly. This piece and James' work helped make a special day even more special and will hang in our home. Once we get a home.

Mazel-tov on the wedding, Dave. Beautiful Ketubah. I'm thinking of having ours re done by Romita Sr. I feel at this point I should point out that marriage is for real. Not just a fairy tale. :) Enjoy!
