Description

Drawn on very stiff artist's vellum, this pencil preliminary by Berni is very close to the finished and inked illustration. The title of the story this illustration was for is "Collector's Item", and like all the other stories in the book, was written by Jack Oleck. The drawing was executed in 1972 and the book was published in 1973. The finished drawing appears in A LOOK BACK on page 162, and a portion of it is also used as the chapter header to A LOOK BACK's Chapter Five "Toward Independence" on page 132. I feel fortunate to have been able to purchase this wonderful drawing from Mitch Itkowitz in September 2004.
