Description

This is the second of my Claude cartoons. This was published in The New Yorker on November 20, 1948. Selective Service had recently been reinstituted putting young men at risk of being forced to serve in the armed forces for two years. One exemption was for married men. Good way to find a husband, if you're not particular. Love the sweet would-be wife. Claude was published over 600 times in The New Yorker, which was the best-paying and most prestigious gig for a free lancer back then.
