Gilbert Hernandez: A Trick of the Unconscious page 2
Shown here is the title page to the A Trick of the Unconscious-story, starring Luba, her 14-year old daughter (and alreay a bombshell) Doralis and Chester, Doralis' husband.
Married at a very young age, Chester and Doralis fight it out in this story. Also seen are Lubas lifelong companion and caretaker since childhood, Ofelia and Lubas child Casimira, proudly waving her prostethis.
If you look close you might see some of the changes Gilbert made during the process of creation. He changed focus in the title panel, by painting over the initial credits and putting in a more suttle credit next to Luba and Chester. Otherwise the credits would have drawn the readers eye away from the dynamic exchange between the approaching Ofelia/Doralis and Luba/Chester. The eye is now more naturally moved from top-left, over the title, to bottom-right.
In the last panel, Casimiras right arm was actually drawn. I guess Gilbert had forgot what arm it was that got chopped off :-)
