Description

Heavy-handed bureaucrat Henry Peter Gyrich was the Avengers' long-time government liaison, a role that saw him act as both an adversary and an ally of the team, depending on the particular circumstances. His status as an overbearing control freak lends itself to both dramatic and humorous situations (I believe Peter David once had someone refer to Gyrich as "The G-Man Who Ate Cleveland"). Gyrich is such a colorful character that I definitely wanted to get a sketch of him.

Charles Barnett worked on a number of Avengers-related comics in the 1990s, and is a fan of the characters. He immediately knew who I was referring to, and drew Gyrich spouting his classic catchphrase. I thanked Charles for agreeing to my slightly odd request, and he said he enjoyed drawing it. It came out great; Charles did a dead-on rendition of the character.
