DescriptionAlthough I was a Marvel and DC kid growing up, I occasionally would pick up Gold Key comic. Gold Key comics always looked interesting to me, because the covers were always painted, instead of penciled and inked like everybody else's. One of their titles was THE OCCULT FILES OF DOCTOR SPEKTOR.Dr. Spektor was doing paranormal investigations before Hellboy and the X-Files came along and made it cool. Back in the day, he'd find himself going up against some vampire, werewolf, mummy, or whatever the monster of the moment happened to be. He was often accompanied by Lakota Rainwater, his secretary/Gal Friday. Unlike his Gold Key compatriots Turok, Son of Stone Solar, Man of the Atom and Magnus, Robot Fighter, Doc wasn't revived by Valiant/Acclaim in the 1990s. That's too bad, because I think he's ripe for a revival, and would make a perfect addition to some thriving comic universe. Doc and Lakota are shown here drawn by the incomparable Luke McDonnell.
