A Warrior of The Night

This is another example of photo reference, started late last night and completed this afternoon. What can I say? I take my time. No I'm not becoming dependent on it, but it is an invaluable aid when I run into a proportions problem. Here we have Batman skulking around. It's easy to note a few differences from the last sketch I uploaded, such as the size of the utility belt (another proportion problem; I didn't have an available prop). I wanted to again experiment with light and shadow, so I inverted the light refracted off of my hand so that there'd be more black on the gloves. I have to say that I'm really having fun with exploring new territory and testing my limits. In fact this is the first horizontal Batman sketch I've ever drawn and aside from a few mistakes here and there it's shaped up nicely. Alone this sketch does well but this is really the test sketch for a larger version on two-ply bristol board. Etched on illustration board with graphic pens and markers.
