Archie Giant 524 Cover (Christmas Special)

When I was hired to restore this piece, the only thing I had to work with was the square piece of artwork shown on the left and the printed comic. The first thing I had to do was attach an aged and color matched piece of art board, to make it the appropriate size. Then I digitally removed the logo, images and mechanical elements (everything above the two word balloons) from the printed comic, removed the color, sharpened them up and made a printout on color matched stat-like paper. The client wanted this piece to be very realistically done, so I cut out each little element and pasted them up separately, although it could also have been done as one single image for a more cost conscious approach. Finally, I added the strip of text on the left, which is the spine of the comic, and added some aging to the back of the art board. Quite a difference between that postage stamp of art and the finished cover!
